The Top 3 Career-Killing Mistakes Black Professionals Make (And What To Do Instead)

Being Black in corporate isn’t a cake walk. This free guide is perfect for early and emerging Black professionals who desire to take their careers to the next level and thrive – without sacrificing their authenticity or sanity.

Contrary to popular belief, advancing your career is not just about being the smartest cookie in corporate.

Instead, sustainable career success is about:

When you effectively integrate these three principles, you’ll show up intentionally, communicate powerfully, add more value, and maximize your impact at work.

How do I know?

Well, three reasons:

1. I had to learn the hard way myself. Even an MBA from Harvard Business School couldn’t shield me from the frustrating and anxiety-inducing challenges everyone encounters as early and emerging professionals navigating high performing corporate environments.
2. Over the past 2 decades, I’ve facilitated leadership programs and coached professionals from all over the globe. I’ve had the opportunity to coach professionals from the Netherlands, South Africa, the UK, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Brazil and Italy through their professional and interpersonal challenges, which has given me not just valuable experience, but also a global perspective on corporate challenges and success. I've also served as guest speaker for international audiences.

3. As Black professionals, there’s no doubt in my mind that we have the right degrees and the intellectual prowess to succeed in corporate, but those aren’t the only things necessary to win at work. When you harness your capabilities and combine them with a sense of ownership of your development, brand and relationships, you increase your odds of success.

So, it’s safe to say I know a thing or two about how to succeed at work, especially after working inside some of world’s most competitive, high-performing companies like:

Now, I’m sharing my hard-won success secrets with Black professionals just like you, so you can avoid the pitfalls and accelerate your career. I do this through my book and through being a speaker for events and conferences.

Hi, I’m Carice!

As a Harvard-trained global learning and organizational development leader, keynote speaker, and author, I’ve spent two decades working inside some of the most high-performing companies.

Now, I’m committed to decoding the unwritten rules of success in high-performing, corporate environments for Black professionals. In fact, I’m so passionate about it that I wrote a book entitled, Intelligence Isn’t Enough: A Black Professional’s Guide to Thriving in the Workplace.

It’s a beyond-the-book-smarts guide that helps professionals identify the preconceived notions and fears they might bring into corporate spaces that could be detrimental to their career success.

In it, I also share some of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned while navigating my career, managing a leadership development program for Black professionals and coaching underrepresented talent.
